Entrepreneurial News Flash !

Hello A-Team !

Portfolio Class: Last week it was all about using pre-shrunk fabrics, grainlines, cutting, fusing, and marking. I also threw in a serging demo in preparation for what you are going to do this week. Monday will be a class on TLC for the school’s machines. I will be going over care and maintenance of sergers and straight stitch sewing machines. Make sure you bring your “Trouble Shooting your Machine” handout from the blog. www.sewalongwithjoanie.wordpress.com. You will find this invaluable and priceless when something goes wrong and you can’t figure out why. We will also go over several ways to use your straight stitch sewing machine so that it will prevent raveling like a serger. This class marks the beginning of using the Portfolio Grading Sheet. On Wednesday, we will be constructing a half size bodice. What fun !!!!!!

Patternmaker Class: You are just finding out that the program has a steep learning curve. I swear to you, it is worth it. By the end of Tuesday’s class, you will have a PDF pattern to take to Staples and have printed. Also on Tuesday, I need to see your completed Croqui. The pattern and the croqui are both on your grading sheet. On Thursday, we will be working on sewing up our slopers to check the fit.

I want to talk about 2 other Fandangos coming up. Remember, these are NOT part of the courses I teach. I am just telling you where I will be and that I am willing to guide you.

1. On Saturday, October 5, I will be on the bus to go to LA with Sew Pros. You can come, too. 2 ways. You can drive up with car mates and I will meet you at Ace Sewing Machine Company. OR you can take the bus with me. You will need to pay Sew Pros if you want to do this. It is $45 for the round trip experience. You will be going to LA’s famous fashion district and you will be going to M & L fabrics in Anaheim. Even if all you buy is lunch, it is worth the trip, if you have never gone before.

2. So my daughter, Kate, is part of San Diego Fashion Week this year. It turns out, that the same people who put on this show, also schedule a monthly workshop that is free !!!!! On September 27, it will be at the W hotel: 421 west B Street. I found that the best way to get to the hotel is by turning up State Street from Broadway. Go up 2 blocks. This is B street. On your right, you will see an ACE parking lot. On your left, kitty corner from the parking lot will be the hotel. The topic of the workshop is Fashion Business Legalities. The workshop starts at 6 PM. We can meet you there. Around the corner, there is a Carl Strauss Brewery Restaurant. It is very close. I know there are lots of places around there. BUT…I wanted a place very close that we all could find. I propose a Dutch treat dinner there. Warren, my husband, thinks that the pricing for a dinner is around $15 each. In order to get to the workshop on time, I am proposing to meet around 4:30 PM. For all you Entrepreneurs out there…………..this is NOT to be missed!! You can also bring your significant other with you. Kate will be there, so you can question her as to what she is going through. Kate says that these events are good for networking. Bring your business cards with you !!!!!
