Week 3 of Sewing Fundamentals !!!!

Hello A-Team !!!!

The prep work is almost complete. Sewing will become very relaxing. Never forget: The MOST important part of sewing is the prep work.

First Pattern: Last week we tried on our shirt patterns, made minor adjustments, and cut our fashion fabrics on grain. We learned how important the sewing commandment: RESPECT THY GRAINLINES really is. This week, we will learn how to fuse interfacing to our facings, serge, and put pattern markings on our fabrics. On Wednesday, we will start using our sewing machines. So if you intend to use your own machine, this is when you should bring it. You will also need all the scrap fabric from when you cut out your garment.

Portfolio: Last week we laid and cut our portfolio patterns on our fashion fabric. In this class, too, we also learned how important the sewing commandment: RESPECT THY GRAINLINES really is. We also learned out to fuse interfacing to our facings, serge, and put pattern markings on our fabrics. This coming Tuesday, we will start using our sewing machines. So if you intend to use your own machine, this is when you should bring it. Tuesday will be the start of using the Portfolio Grading Sheet for our samples. Bring your scrap fabric from when you did your cutting. You will need it to check your machine every time you start to sew.

This weekend, I had a chance to visit the SD County Fair. I always love the home ec floor. I love seeing the art on the floor below. BUT…the best thing I saw was in the tent behind the Bing Crosby Building. You could buy butterflies mounted in a frame. I am NOT saying this was inexpensive. I am saying that this was a chance to examine butterflies close up. I didn’t buy a single butterfly. BUT….I sure did think about it !!!!!

Let’s have a great week !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See you in class !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
