I want to thank all of you who sent me cards and gifts for the holdiay. I am very very honored !!!! I LOVE what I do. Every day I come to teach, I need to pinch myself because I am so lucky to do what I love. My biggest thrill is seeing all of you move forward in your sewing skills. THANK YOU !!!!!!
Sew Like a Pro: On Monday night, we will finally sew up our skirts and bias. I do hope that over the break, you basted all your seams. We will also discuss what will happen for the rest of the month. Yes, I hope there will be a sub. I will know for sure, just before class. I need to take some time off. My breast cancer surgery is going to happen January 7th. All I can say is Thank God for Mammograms. Get one every year !!!!
Sewing Fundamentals: We will continue to read our pattern guides and sew up our pants and shirts. IF you finish early, you can start another pattern. I won’t be there on Tuesday. There will be a great sub. You will need to finish your garments and send me pictures so I can grade you for your course certificates of completion. Send them to me as attachments to an email.
Things to know about:
1. Central Sewing Center
Home for Creative Stitchers
Happy New Year to all of you Creative Stitchers!
So many of you made the Annual Christmas Potluck at Central such an amazing success! Not only did you share your excellent culinary expertise……. (ok, some of you stopped at Vons but who cares, what you shared was yummy! Right?)….. you amazed the staff and Mike and Paula with your generosity! To say the least, they were amazed and were overcome with a sense of being appreciated by those of us who call Central our home! WOW!
January 2015 is upon us and Central is up and running to keep you abreast of all the new designs/projects and technology. Your Destiny is still top of the line in the single needle Embroidery/Sewing machines and not to be outdone, the 10 Needle Enterprise Embroidery Machine could be the next addition to your embroidery family. When you stop and see either of these machines in action you will be amazed with their capabilities. Watch their cameras in action, ooohh and ahhh as the Desitny scanner takes your simple coloring book design, and with your help, transform it into a beautiful embroidery design. After you load the initial colors on the Enterprise you can just listen to the hum as ”he” stitches your design to perfection while you just …. watch. No changing threads after each color. What a time saver!
Some of us have even given this awesome machine a quirky nickname… ok, I, me (Karen) I am the only one who calls the Enterprise … wait for it … wait for it…. Captain Kirk!
Coming Soon : Moments with Mike
Mike will begin sharing a monthly tip on machine maintenance and much more. What topic will he cover first? Any guesses?
Open Sewing is on Monday mornings 10:30 am to 12:30 pm
This started as a small group of creative stitchers sharing their joy of their machines.. Today it has grown large, but not as big as embroidery club. It is a more personal, one to one, group. It is a perfect time to ask for help, share what projects are in the making, and some just come to chat with people who share their passion for quilting and embroidery. Yes…. stitchers who have a passion for sewing are there too. You will be surprised with the projects that are brought to share. So don’t be shy, come and join in the fun.
Multi-needle Club is the second Saturday of each month.
Saturday, January 10th 9:30 am til 11:30 am
Hey, you are one of the Creative Stitchers thinking of moving up to the awesome Enterprise? Then please join us and chat with those of us who keep our Captain working. Hummmmmmm
We would love to share the great capabilities of this wonderful work horse.
BUNCO is the second Monday evening of the month…
6 pm til 9 pm $5 and a snack to share is all you need. Check out the pictures from some of our fun Bunco evenings! Rolling dice, eating snacks, and trying to win a gift certificate to Central. Now that is what we call relief from a tedious Monday evening at home. Call to reserve your spot !
Embroidery Club is the last Saturday of the month 9 am til???
This is a great opportunity for embroidery friends to gather information on upcoming events, see new design releases, get detailed info on the many fun classes planned for January, snack on the yummy goodies and, yes, hope you are one of the ones to win a door prize. I wonder what Mike and Paula will come up with for this month’s prizes. Hhhmmmm? It will be hard to overshadow the great Christmas Party gifts and prizes.
Now that is the way to spend a Saturday morning! Any takers on what month Barbara K. will win a door prize? Doesn’t she have the luck?!
The fee is $35.00 for a 2-hour group class or one hour one on one. Of course, classes are free if the machine was purchased from Central.

Subject: Happy New Year! – Gwen Couture
Hello All and Happy New Year!
I feel as though this is going to be an amazing year – so much to look forward to and so many positive changes in the works. I feel fortunate to have so many wonderful, creative, and inspiring people surrounding me and enriching my life – Thank you.
The design studio is taking shape – we have increased our class offerings and will continue to do so – this month we will also be offering a session of open studio time, Monday 1/19. This will be an opportunity for intermediate sewers to work in the studio without instruction utilizing the amenities of the studio. I have attached a calendar for your reference with class times and the open studio date – we still have a couple seats available if anyone is interested in signing up for the January session or a portion thereof.
A couple points of note – our building is undergoing a major facelift – this will certainly cause a bit of noise and commotion over the next few months however the end result will be well worth the inconvenience. The projected renderings are very exciting! This old Art Deco building has watched over the adjacent park since the days it was a trolley stop – I’m glad she gets a new dress for a new era. Well deserved. I also want to invite you to follow gwencouture on Instagram – I try to limit the number of emails I send as I know most of us have trouble keeping up with the inbox as it is – this will give you an opportunity to keep abreast of what’s happening in the studio if you so desire.
Once again – a Very Happy New Year!
Cheers – Gwen
