Changes Coming

Oh Hi There, A-Team !!!!!

Sewing Fundamentals: After last Thursday’s class, I know, I need to back track and teach crimping again. So I am going to hold back the class one day. We will go over crimping and putting in sleeves again. Let’s go over this. This will cause the portfolio module to be lengthened one class period. On Tuesday, we will go over the date changes in the syllabus.

Upcycling: We are still working on our Salvation Army updates. This is such an exciting project !!!!! Last week, we had a Kodak moment in the classroom. Elo became the picture of the week !!!!!

News of the day:

We went on a fandango with Sew Pro’s last Saturday. What a time we had in the LA garment district and at M & L fabrics !!!!! Next trip up will be in March 2015 !!!!

WE need all remember to fill out the Class Attendance Verification (CAV) correctly. You MUST sign your name. You MUST write in the time you came and the time you left. Any changes MUST be initialed.

This Thursday, the 3rd Thursday in October, is the Great California Shake Out. Join millions of Californians practicing how to “Drop, Cover and Hold On.” Visit to find out more.

Subject: Upstairs Restrooms will both be closed 10/17-10/19 for facility maintenance

Please inform your students that the upstairs restrooms will be CLOSED from 10/17-10/19 for maintenance/repairs. Direct them to the student restrooms downstairs and remind them of the elevators for their convenience. I will post signs on the restrooms upstairs as well.

Thank you in advance,

Subject: Urgent Message from Dean Lorie Howell – West City Campus is a NON SMOKING CAMPUS – Please remind all students immediately

Please remind all students that this is a NON-SMOKING facility immediately.

Unfortunately there has been an ongoing problem of students smoking on our campus in spite of our NO SMOKING Policy and Signage around the building and parking lot.

Another Issue: We have also been experiencing NO SMOKING signs being cut down around campus and have had to re-hang them over and over again.

Please remind your students of our signs we have posted and direct them to leave campus if they desire to smoke while attending our classes. We will have to work together to enforce this policy and appreciate your support in this matter.

Thank you in advance

Date: November 8

Time: 8:00 AM

Where: On the Mesa (where else?)

What: 5K Run, 1 Mile Walk/Run, 0.5 Mile Race

Street Fair! Homecoming Game!

Why: It’s Veterans’ weekend. All of the proceeds from the run will be used for emergency assistance for the veteran students at Mesa!

It will be a lot of fun!

Join one of the 3 races! Challenge your students – your colleagues!

Form a team – train or don’t train!

The students at the Met High School say they can beat anyone from the colleges or district – is that true?

All races end in the stadium.

You can register for the run online at:

The Street Fair is a great opportunity for your club, department, program to raise funds. Reserve a booth (no charge to SDCCD folks) by contacting me (azacovic x2285). So far we have 30 vendors signed up. Be creative. The Mesa Speech and Debate Club is considering selling compliments and insults! You can sell gently used items, or new things – but reserve your space NOW!

Subject: Curie crafts fair Saturday Nov 1st at the Curie Elementary school (Governor Drive)

Hello friends and neighbors!

The Crafts Fair at the Curie Grade School is coming up Saturday, November 1st 9 AM-3PM.

4080 Governor Drive (about 1/2 block from Genesse intersection). There is plenty of parking behind the school.

This is a yearly crafts fair that features ONLY handcrafted items made by local crafts folks, and there will be over 100 crafters selling their works. Also check out the food and baked goods section. This year instead of being a shopper, I will have a booth to sell my hand made scarves, hats, and jewelry. In addition, I will be sharing a booth with my friend Sherri that makes wonderful hand made greeting cards.

This is a great place to pick up some great holiday gifts. Please make sure to come see us! (Look for the Hippy Hound sign on our booth).

See you all in class this week !!!!!!
