Between Thanksgiving & Christmas Break

Hello A-Team !

Gobble, Gobble, Gobble !!!!! What a fun holiday !!! I hope you all had good times with family and friends. I know I did. I got to go to Disneyland. Apparently many others went, too. By 2 PM, the place was packed !!!!! The other fun thing I did this break, was take 3 days and do professional growth at Central Sewing. The Serge–a-thon was terrific ! It really increased my skills using a serger. I recommend this course to anyone who owns or is thinking of buying a serger. You learn how to use the serger in such different ways. Of course, the more decorative the stitch was, the more I liked it. The next time Paula Rupley comes to demonstrate the Evolution, you will see and learn a whole bunch of new stitches and techniques. (Spring Semester.)

Classes resume tonight !!! I hope you are ready !!!!

Using Your First Commercial Pattern: Just before the break, we finished our pattern fittings, we learned how to handle sewing machines, started using the school’s sergers to stop our cut fabric pieces from raveling (except for the seams that are going to be encased), learned how to fuse interfacing and mark our fabric with the pattern markings we need to construct our garments. I also taught a special stitch, so that if you do NOT own a serger, you can sew up your knitted garment with a stitch called the 2 by 2: This zig-zag stitch is 2 millimeters wide by 2 millimeters long. I also gave out extra credit to 5 helpers who helped me teach TLC for the school’s machines!!!!!! This coming week, I will be doing a class demo for those who want to learn how to embroider. Then it is time to sew!!! I will be there, in case you run into problems with your pattern guide. ALWAYS REMEMBER: THE PATTERN GUIDE IS JUST A GUIDE. There are many ways to do the same thing. And no two sewers will agree on the same technique.

Computer Patternmaking: We only had one class meeting the week before the break. Not all finished patternmaking their final project patterns. We are now back in room 209 where we are starting to build our final garments. There will be two computers so that you can finish up your patterns. What fun !!!! There is light at the end of the tunnel !!!!

I want to pass out this ½ size dress form link. SAVE this link. The site is currently being redone and won’t be available till the end of the year.

Here are the other sites we talked about in class:

See you all this week !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
